Awesome ride today that was just shy of epic with weather and mechanicals. We did a "reverse" Wateree route but hugged the coast. The general route we did is HERE. Great roads with no traffic out there.
When the 5 of us left at 9:30 the weather was clearing but
the wind was picking up. We had a massive tailwind all the way down Perceival to 601 and pretty much had cross-tail or tailwind most of the ride...except for the last 15 miles back down Perceival--wow that was brutal. We got really lucky with the wind today.
Casey snapped her RD cable at mile 50 and after trying to get the limit screws set to get her in a manageable gear I finally just jammed a stick in the RD which kept her in the 15 and gave her two workable gears. That worked great for the rest of the ride (she may have a different opinion). Rob later somehow managed to get his RD cable stuck INSIDE of a link in his chain...never seen that one before. After fixing it he had access to only his 12,13,14 for the rest of the ride. Crazy.
I spent a lot of the day sitting on the front with new-guy-Cleve who's a Cat. 1 type and races for Myogenesis. This weekend I racked up 457 TSS...I'm gonna be worthless tomorrow at work! My CTL now (37) is above where it was last year.

Dang, that sounds like a nice ride, minus the mechanicals. I ended up with a normal G-Mart loop, and like you guys, got quite lucky with the wind. The only time in was straight in my face was Cabin Creek.
thanks for the ride and the stick trick!
Last night we managed to fix the bikes. Upon further inspection it seems the problem was definitely caused by a faulty pin/link. The only explaination for how it got mixed up w/ the RD cable is that when the chain semi broke, it flung up into the cable. Weird. Anyways, awesome ride.
if it was my bike it would be 3 weeks later and you'd be wondering why I still have that stick stuck in my derailler...
