epic...almost

Today's ride should have sucked. Low 40's and some rain. It ended up being a great ride...70 miles went by pretty quick for the 7 of us...the roads out in the N.E. are really nice. The cold actually helped with the pace as riding hard was the only way to stay warm. We were talking that it was about 3° in temp from being epic...miserable. It's a very fine line sometimes.

Phil A. was out with us today and says he wants to race with us some this year...are we happy about that? Hmmmmmm.

Did you go riding around my old routes? Blythewood and up to Ridgeville? Get out past Ridgeville to Lake Wateree and you'll be surprised. Some short steeps that come out of nowhere. There's a good loop that goes through Winsboro back into Blythewood that is Paris-Roubaix stuff. Henry at Summit Cycles should know those routes pretty well by now.

Exactly...all those sound familiar but I had no freakin idea where I was most of the time. I spent most of the day just staring at jay's wheel.

We went through Blythewood, west to Cedar Creek, up Hwy 269, east to Ridgeway, then towards Lake Wateree on Longtown and Bellefield. Then we turned south on Smallwood and headed back. Next time we could do the Lake Wateree route to add more climbing.

I gotta say having the ride end at a Starbucks was a good idea. A triple venti soy latte after riding around in 40° rainy weather was sweet!

Those roads are a blast. If you get a chance try to find a loop up to Winnsboro and take Old Camden Road back into Ridgeville. I did a century loop that took you on the south side of Wateree over to the gas station on the Winnsboro exit on 77 and back through downtown Winnsboro. After that Old Camden will kick your butt. About four miles outside of Winnsboro it is hard pack sand with some challenging climbs. Take the first right past the bridge over 77. It dead ends in downtown Ridgeville.

Sounds like you need to plan a trip up to Cola soon...we can get toby/damon etc out for one of these rides.
